| OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE: |
| A component of the Annual Settlers' Days, Inc.
4-day event, the parade celebrates our community and county
organizations, businesses and community and other political
dignitaries. The Settlers' Day Parade, which is reputed to be
one of the largest high school competition marching parades
in Northern Illinois, attracts guests and trade to our community
from surrounding Illinois and Wisconsin areas. |

| COMMUNITY
INVOLVEMENT: |
| Community organizations and businesses enter
the parade and decorate their entry within the established theme.
Judges select trophy winners in more than 20 entry categories.
Community is encouraged to volunteer. Assistance is needed in
many areas. |

| COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES: |
| Promote entries. Facilitate a diverse line
up in order of receipt of entry. Recruit volunteers. Work through
City of Marengo to close streets and to secure auxiliary police
from McHenry County. Solicit sponsors and donors and procure
judges, emcees and invocation. Implement selection process for
Grand Marshall. Obtain cars for Marengo and Union dignitaries.
Acquire and decorate a reviewing stand and secure P.A. system
for emcees. Mark off the line up area according to size of entry
and establish a separate holding area to line up horse entries.
Collect a brief narration of each entry for emcees. Present
judges and workers with information kits. Order trophies and
ribbons. Work with High School to identify marching bands and
effect their appropriate line up. |
