The City of Marengo is served by a 38-member, all volunteer fire department. The fire station is located on East Prairie Street in Marengo.The district handled 572 calls in 2013, and was founded in 1937.
Firemen participate in the Settler’s Days parade and a host of other area events.

The Village of Union is served by a 24-member, paid on call fire department. The unmanned station is located on Main Street in Union. Calls are dispatched through the McHenry dispatch center to the members of the department. The Union Fire Protection fleet includes seven modern fire trucks, and one antique truck which is used for special events.The district responded to just over 100 calls in 2013.
